3D Bio-Tissues’ ETSYL Enters Global Luxury Skincare Partnership
3D Bio-Tissues is pleased to announce a major new commercial milestone for ETSYL®, its proprietary bioactive peptide originally developed through the company’s tissue engineering research.
BSF Enterprise PLC has signed Heads of Terms with SCHAKAU Managementberatung GmbH for the worldwide exclusive commercialisation, distribution and licensing of ETSYL® across the cosmetics, skincare, dermocosmetics and luxury beauty sectors.
For 3D Bio-Tissues, the agreement represents an important step in translating its biotechnology research into commercial applications beyond tissue engineering.
From tissue engineering to luxury skincare
ETSYL® was originally developed by the 3D Bio-Tissues team as part of its work to enhance cellular growth and stimulate natural collagen production within engineered tissues.
Its demonstrated biological activity in supporting extracellular matrix production identified a further opportunity in skincare, where collagen production is an important consideration in the development of advanced cosmetic formulations.
The new partnership provides a route for ETSYL® to move into the global luxury beauty market, while allowing 3D Bio-Tissues to remain focused on its core expertise in biotechnology and tissue engineering.
A global commercialisation partnership
Under the agreement, SCHAKAU has been granted exclusive worldwide commercialisation, distribution and licensing rights for ETSYL® for an initial target-linked term of 10 years.
SCHAKAU will fund an estimated €300,000 towards clinical claim substantiation, regulatory compliance, brand development and international distribution.
The company also plans to introduce ETSYL® as the core active ingredient in its ultra-luxury skincare brand, HANDS OF GOD, while developing further opportunities to license the ingredient to established cosmetic brands.
3D Bio-Tissues will supply ETSYL® as the active bioingredient, creating a potential new commercial supply stream for the business. BSF Enterprise will retain full ownership of the underlying intellectual property, patents and manufacturing know-how.
Unlocking value from tissue engineering research
The development of ETSYL® demonstrates how research undertaken to solve challenges in tissue engineering can generate applications across multiple biotechnology markets.
For 3D Bio-Tissues, this is particularly significant because the company’s research platform is not limited to a single application. Technologies developed to support engineered tissues can also provide opportunities in areas including biopharmaceutical research, cellular agriculture and advanced materials.
ETSYL® represents a strong example of this broader approach: a bioactive molecule developed from tissue engineering research that can now be developed as a commercial ingredient for the rapidly evolving luxury skincare market.
Building the next generation of biotechnology products
The partnership marks another step in 3D Bio-Tissues’ strategy of developing commercially relevant technologies from advanced cellular and tissue engineering research.
As ETSYL® progresses through commercial development, the company will continue to focus on its core scientific capabilities while working with specialist partners to bring innovative biotechnology products into new markets.
ETSYL® demonstrates the commercial potential of 3D Bio-Tissues’ research – where advances in tissue engineering can create opportunities far beyond the laboratory.
